MNIKS Purple is Africaâs first one-stop fashion sourcing and production hub based in Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria. It serves as a specialized ecosystem tailored for fashion designers, stylists, and style creators We are  recruiting to fill the position below:
 Job Title: Pattern Maker (F/M)
Location: Akerele Street, Surulere, Lagos
Employment Type: Contract (6 months - 1-month probation period)
Reports to: Operations Manager
Level: Entry level (Ideal for students, NYSC corps members, or recent graduates). ââââEssential Functions
Interpret fashion designersâ sketches and technical specifications to draft accurate garment patterns. Use manual and/or computer-aided design (CAD) methods to draft pattern pieces. Ensure all patterns align with design intent, fit standards, and manufacturing feasibility. Request, document, and track customer and client fit feedback, escalating issues to the supervisor. Stay updated on fashion trends, pattern-making technologies, and modern design tools.
Revise and refine patterns based on fittings, sample garment results, and designer feedback. Collaborate closely with designers, tailors, and sample makers to ensure fit precision and design integrity. Grade patterns across size ranges while preserving balance, proportions, and production consistency. Test pattern accuracy through sample reviews, documenting all alterations and adjustments made. Ensure all pattern development adheres strictly to established production standards.
Collaborate with design and tailoring teams to determine suitable fabrics and notions for each pattern. Evaluate fabric properties (stretch, weight, drape, hand-feel) to advise on optimal cutting layouts and construction methods. Provide continuous feedback to optimize production workflows and minimize material waste.
Maintain accurate, comprehensive records of all pattern drafts, alterations, and sign-offs. Organize and manage the physical and digital pattern archiving systems. Ensure all patterns satisfy company quality, sizing, and grading guidelines before release to production.
Handle administrative duties, including email correspondence, appointment scheduling, and design file organization. Work collaboratively with tailors to streamline garment assembly and resolve production bottlenecks. Track project deliverables, task timelines, and milestones. Maintain basic records for fabric utilization, pattern usage, and related project expenses.
Arrive early at the hub for the morning alignment meeting with the Operations Manager, Shop Manager, Designers, Marketing, and Tailors to review daily targets and project deadlines. Draft and adjust patterns based on design specifications using manual or digital tools. Attend virtual or in-person fittings to assess sample garment fits and implement needed corrections. Coordinate with tailors and designers to refine construction techniques and update pattern documentation. Spend at least two days per week on-site for physical reviews, with remaining days handling remote drafting, coordination, and administrative tracking.
Proven ability to draft, interpret, and manipulate garment patterns manually or with digital software. Solid understanding of pattern grading and proportional grading rules. Solid knowledge of textile characteristics, fabric behavior, and garment draping. Practical sewing skills (basic to advanced) to construct, assess, and alter sample garments. Strong attention to detail, precision, and problem-solving abilities for fit diagnostics. Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work harmoniously alongside designers, tailors, and remote staff. Digital literacy across Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Zoom, Teams, or design collaboration platforms. Reliable time management, accountability, and the ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
Experience with digital pattern-making software (e.g., Optitex, Gerber, CLO3D, Adobe Illustrator). Prior practical experience within fashion production, tailoring houses, or garment development units. Familiarity with retail quality control and manufacturing workflows.
Self-motivated individual who has completed formal fashion pattern-making training and possesses a strong understanding of fashion design principles. Demonstrates solid sewing capability, sharp attention to detail, strong time-management skills, and effective communication across technical teams.
