MNIKS Purple is Africa’s first one-stop fashion sourcing and production hub based in Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria. It serves as a specialized ecosystem tailored for fashion designers, stylists, and style creators. We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Tailor (F/M)
Location: Akerele Street, Surulere, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time (including weekends)
Slots: 2 Openings
Reports to: Operations Manager Key Responsibilities
Use freehand, draping, and pattern-cutting techniques to create and alter garments (including suits, dresses, and custom pieces), ensuring high precision in stitching, fitting, and finishing. Take accurate client body measurements and keep thorough records. Conduct and assist customers and clients with garment fittings. Apply basic bookkeeping principles to track material costs and related expenses.
Collaborate with the design team to select appropriate fabrics, trims, and notions for each garment design.
Ensure every finished garment satisfies internal quality, fit, and construction standards. Professionally press, iron, label, and package garments for client pickup, dispatch, or international shipping.
Take full ownership of the sewing room inventory and accurately track usage and stock levels. Conduct routine physical stock counts of sewing materials and notions. Flag low stock levels and initiate orders for replenishment. Receive, inspect, log, and organize new inventory items promptly.
Support recruitment activities and assist in welcoming and onboarding new workshop hires. Liaise closely with designers, patternmakers, and tailors to ensure production targets and deadlines are met. Coordinate with the Operations and Hub Manager to adjust garments for fit and resolve client concerns.
Resume at 8:30 AM (Monday to Saturday), ensuring the workstation is neat and organized. Attend the morning alignment briefing with the Operations Manager, Hub Manager, designers, and patternmakers. Prepare workstations, check sewing machines, set up cutting tables, and lay out needed patterns, fabrics, and tools. Construct and alter assigned garments using industrial machines, maintaining clean seams and accurate finishes. Attend client fittings, execute real-time garment adjustments, and take client measurements. Inspect completed garments thoroughly, press and steam pieces, and package them with accurate labels. Log fabric and notion usage, balance daily materials tracking, clean equipment, and prepare the workspace for the following day. Occasionally support pop-up activations, trade fairs, client visits, or general hub operational tasks.
Performance & Evaluation
Evaluations are based on garment finishing quality, turnaround speed, customer satisfaction, and compliance with operational standards. Confirmation of permanent employment is contingent on satisfactory performance during the two-month probation period.
Proven experience in garment construction, alteration, and finishing, preferably in a fashion house or boutique setting. Demonstrated mastery of sewing techniques and sewing tools; proficient use of an industrial sewing machine is compulsory. Solid practical understanding of alterations, fittings, pattern cutting (freehand and pattern-based), and textile behaviors. Strong knowledge of professional garment pressing and ironing techniques. Relevant qualifications or formal certifications in tailoring, fashion design, or garment manufacturing. High attention to detail, precision, and passion for fashion production. Strong communication skills in English. Strong interpersonal skills, time management, organizational abilities, and emotional resilience under pressure. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of an integrated production team.
Practical experience in mass production environments or broader fashion operations (design, styling, photography, or retail).
Skilled and experienced in sewing women's and children's clothing across both bespoke and ready-to-wear categories, ideally within a fashion retail or boutique environment. Creative, self-motivated, capable of working independently, and committed to consistently delivering high-quality garments.
Salary:N70,000 – N100,000 per month (based on skill level and experience) Practical skill development and hands-on technical exposure.
