The Site Nurse is responsible for providing 24/7 occupational health, emergency first aid, and primary healthcare services to all personnel on site, vessels, and waste management facilities. The role is critical to ensuring compliance with regulators and client HSE requirements for medical waste handling, pollution control, and industrial operations.
Provide immediate first aid, emergency stabilization, and triage for injuries, chemical exposure, burns, and accidents from petroleum handling, haulage, and marine operations. Manage the site clinic/infirmary: drug inventory, equipment sterility, medical records. Coordinate Medevac and referral to retainer hospitals for serious cases. Conduct daily fitness-for-duty checks for drivers, marine crew, waste handlers, and heavy equipment operators.
Conduct pre-mobilization and periodic medical examinations for all staff and contractors - especially those handling hazardous waste (medical, industrial, petroleum). Monitor and enforce use of PPE for waste handlers and implement health surveillance for exposure to hazardous materials, hydrocarbons, and pollutants. Implement malaria control, fatigue management, and heat stress prevention programs for field crews. Carry out health education/toolbox talks on occupational hazards, blood-borne pathogens, chemical safety, and communicable diseases.
Supervise clinical/medical waste segregation at source in the site clinic and ensure proper handling, documentation, and handover to the Medical Waste Treatment team in line with NESREA and WHO standards. Support pollution control and environmental consultancy teams by documenting health impact assessments and community health complaints from pollution/host community exposures. Ensure proper handling and disposal of expired drugs and clinical sharps as hazardous waste.
Compliance, Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate daily clinic register, injury/illness logs, near-miss health reports, and medical inventory. Prepare weekly/monthly HSE Health Reports for the HSE Manager and Clients - IOCs, Total, Chevron, etc. Ensure compliance with DPR Environmental Guidelines, ISO 45001:2018, ISO 14001, and company HSE-MS. Custodian of first aid kits in offices, trucks, vessels, and waste incineration plants - monthly inspection.
Key Requirements
Registered Nurse (RN) / Registered Midwife (RM) - Must be licensed by NMCN Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNSc) is an added advantage Valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and First Aid Instructor. Professional certification: CILT, CIPS, or NIMN is an added advantage Minimum 4-6 years of post-qualification experience, with at least 2 years in Oil & Gas, Marine, Construction, or Industrial Waste Management setting. Experience in managing medical emergencies in remote sites without immediate hospital access. Knowledge of the medical waste management chain is essential given the companyâs specialization.
