Job Description
Support the Chief Engineer in operating the vessel safely and incident-free, in line with STCW, MARPOL, Flag State, Class, ISM/ISPS and MLC 2006
Plan and supervise corrective and preventive maintenance and inspection of the vessel’s machinery and plants
Ensure planned maintenance is executed through the onboard system (Mx Suite)
Monitor fuel and lubricating oil consumption and manage engine stores
Train, coach and mentor engine room crew, and be ready to take charge of the engine department in an emergency
Maintain technical logbooks and support dry-dock and repair reports.
RequirementsSTCW Certificate of Competency as Second Engineer Officer (Reg. III/2 or III/3, as appropriate to the vessel), recognized by NIMASA
STCW Basic Safety Training and Advanced Fire Fighting, Engine-room Resource Management (ERM) and the other management-level STCW courses required for the certificate
Certificate of Medical Fitness (ILO / MLC 2006), valid Seaman’s Discharge Book and international passport
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the same rank on the same type of vessel
Experience with Wärtsilä and/or Caterpillar engines
Electrical knowledge, including the ability to read electrical diagrams
Computer literate, observant, physically fit, and able to work well in a team
Advantage: SPM buoy, workboat or diving-system maintenance; Ship Security Awareness; high-voltage safety training.
