THRIVE Overview


Transforming Health and Resilience for Individuals through Vibrant Empowerment (THRIVE) Award is a five-year USAID initiative that commenced on December 19, 2024. Implemented by the Center for Clinical Care and Research Nigeria, THRIVE aims to ensure that Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) receive care and protection from their households, communities, and local and state governments to reduce their vulnerability to HIV.


The project's anticipated outcomes include:


Enhanced access to basic services and care for OVC households
Community support for OVC to secure their rights
Improved delivery of basic services and response to child rights violations by local and state governments
Targeted services provided for specific OVC subpopulations


Position Overview


Oversee HIV care and support services for OVC and their households
Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure enrollment and provision of necessary services to all HIV-related subpopulations in the OVC project
Collaborate with treatment implementing partners to identify and enroll all CLHIV in OVC care
Participate in managing enrolled beneficiaries and ensure prompt access to care, particularly during emergencies
Design HIV Care service provision at the household level to demonstrate contribution to the UNAIDS 95-95-95 epidemic control goal


Key Responsibilities


Provide technical guidance to THRIVE partner CSOs in implementing community-based HIV Care and Support activities
Collaborate with the THRIVE team to develop and implement an integrated, holistic community-based response to HIV/AIDS, expanding access to HIV prevention and care services for vulnerable children and caregivers
Contribute technical input for strategy development, design, and implementation of HIV Prevention / Care & Support activities, ensuring improved access to services for project beneficiaries and caregivers
Guide CSOs in maintaining overall technical quality, adhering to standards, best practices, and donor guidelines for all HIV Prevention Care & Support activities
Support strategies to ensure project activities are based on strong behavior change principles and build capacity of CSOs and relevant GON staff for effective implementation and monitoring
Coordinate with Treatment partners for bidirectional patient referrals between facilities and communities
Regularly obtain patient line lists and ensure data synergy with treatment partners across all custom indicators
Oversee quality HIV care monitoring at the household level, ensuring optimal drug adherence and viral load suppression
Document OVC project contributions to care and treatment partners' achievements along the 95-95-95 epidemic control cascades
Collaborate with SMOH, SMWASD, SACA, and HIV TWGs in assigned states to identify and leverage opportunities for improved community-level linkages, referral coordination, and integration of HIV Prevention Care & Support elements into other OVC project activities
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor


Key Relationships:


Supervisory: This position has no supervisory responsibilities
Internal: HIV Care and Support Advisor, State Team Lead, CSO Partners
External: Other Implementing treatment partners, SACA, Ministry of Health, SPHCDA

Required Qualifications and Skills


MBBS with 1-2 years of relevant experience in implementing HIV-TB Treatment and Prevention Programs, including technical experience with community-level HIV prevention, Care & Support programs
Proven ability to work effectively with government and civil society partners and communities, and transfer knowledge to diverse audiences through workshops, training, and meetings using participatory methods and adult learning principles
Experience supporting HIV Testing and Counselling programs in health facilities, mobile units, and community outreaches
Thorough knowledge of Government of Nigeria HIV Care and Treatment guidelines (Pediatric & Adult), PMTCT, TB, other STIs, and experience working with the Ministry of Health and other relevant entities
Familiarity with PEPFAR-OVC programming and principles
Excellent English oral and written communication skills
Strong analytical, organizational, and computer skills; proficient in MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
