Job Type: Full-time Role Description

The Agricultural Extension and Field Research Officer is a full-time, on-site role based in Ago-Iwoye. This role involves providing technical advisory support to farm owners and field workers on best practices in pineapple cultivation, including land preparation, planting, crop management, and harvesting. The officer will conduct field trials and research to improve yield, soil health, pest and disease management, and overall farm productivity, documenting findings and translating them into practical recommendations. Day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring farm activities, collecting and analyzing field data, training farm owners and workers through workshops and demonstrations, and preparing regular reports on crop performance and project outcomes. The role also includes collaborating with management on extension programs, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and supporting the implementation of innovative agronomic techniques.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, or a related field; relevant field experience is highly valued. Strong foundation in agronomy or crop science, preferably with experience in horticulture or pineapple production. Ability to design and implement field research trials, collect data, and interpret agronomic results for practical application. Skills in farmer education and extension services, including training, coaching, and communicating technical information clearly to diverse audiences. Knowledge of sustainable agriculture practices, soil and water management, and integrated pest and disease management. Competence in farm monitoring and record-keeping, with basic proficiency in digital tools for data collection and reporting. Excellent observation, analytical, and problem-solving skills for diagnosing field issues and recommending solutions. Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with farm owners, workers, and management. Willingness to work primarily on-site in Ago-Iwoye, including regular field visits and hands-on engagement in farm operations.
